Beyond the Hero’s Journey - Structure for Novelists – Anthony Mullins
*THIS IS A RETURN OF THE SOLD-OUT WORKSHOP FROM EARLY 2023 DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND*
In screenwriting, writers are taught a formula for creating stories. The Hero’s Journey has become a pervasive way of telling stories that has overrun our way of storytelling, from screenwriting to novels, from podcasts to Ted Talks. But the straightjacket of the Hero’s Journey preferences the stories of heroes (read white men), who leave home and conquer obstacles to bring home the prize. This leaves other kinds of characters in the dark. In this half day workshop award-winning screenwriter and script producer Anthony Mullins will present other ways of telling stories and explore how to structure your book around the inner journey of the characters and the external conflicts they face in the course of the story.
