Helen Bernhagen has been working in the Brisbane indie book trade since 1989.

At home she arranges her books in order of preference and enjoyment; she prefers to rely on the alphabet at work. She collects memorabilia from the 1976 film The Man Who fell to Earth and also various editions of the Walter Tevis book from which it was based. She has a keen interest in animal rights and hopes to finish her degree in sociology before she turns fifty.

Helen enjoys reading fiction by John Irving, T. C. Boyle and Paul Auster and her favourite philosopher is Friedrich Hegel.
