The Mother Wound
Amani Haydar suffered the unimaginable when she lost her mother in a brutal act of domestic violence perpetrated by her father. Five months pregnant at the time, her own perception of how she wanted to mother (and how she had mothered) was shaped by this devastating murder. The Mother Wound is a feminist memoir from the intersection of Amani's experiences as victim of crime, lawyer, Arab-Australian and visibly Muslim woman, combining memoir, social commentary and legal analysis to confront both the personal and political dimensions of trauma. Amani writes with power, fury and grace, using her recovered strength to help other survivors find their voice.
