Every parent thinks of their child as being one in a million, but for mum-to-be Emma and her Peruvian partner Roy, their unborn baby was literally that. During a routine scan Emma sees what looks like a star flickering above her baby’s chest.  In fact, it is his heart growing outside his body due to an exceedingly rare condition called ectopia cordis.

At 20-weeks, Emma and her partner Roy are given two heartbreaking options: to end the pregnancy or continue in the knowledge their baby will die. Surprising many, they decide to continue the pregnancy. What ensues is one of the most difficult yet profound experiences of their lives. Buddhism and Catholicism, alternative healers and doctors all join forces to support the couple and their baby.

The Heart of Jesús Valentino is a tender, heartfelt story about what can happen when we are forced to go beyond the everyday and confront issues of life, death and grief. Powerful, honest and beautifully written, this book shows how great pain can birth great love.
