Join Bruce Nash for the launch of An Island in the Lake.
Patrick and Ruth Beckett have retired from the world to the sublime wild landscape of the far south coast of NSW. To their garden, to their books, to their island in the lake. They want no part of the madness of Sydney’s exclusive Harbourside Grammar, monstrous celebrity billionaire Buckets Barrington, or the sinister Magnareach Corporation. But the madness wants a part of them. Can great books, small black ducks, perfectly formed compost and proper placement of the apostrophe be enough to defend their paradise?
An Island in the Lake is an entertaining tale about some serious business, including the absurdities of the education industry and standardized testing, the abiding power and beauty of the landscape and its indigenous legacy, narcissistic public figures and media manipulations, great literature in a post-truth world, and growing your own vegetables.
Bruce Nash describes himself as ‘always having written’. For three decades he also taught English in Secondary Schools throughout Queensland. He survived, and now lives and writes on the far south coast of New South Wales, by the shores of Wallaga Lake.
Bruce describes his debut novel An Island in the Lake as a love story about words, landscape and various kinds of modern madness.
